Outpatient Rehab Treatment For Alcohol Addiction

October 10, 2022 //  by Geoff

Unfortunately, the reality is that, for many people in recovery from alcohol addiction and alcoholism, relapse rates are high: Recovery rates tend to be highest for individuals who get one-on-one therapy with a mental health professional. The article below is about two different Alcohol Rehab Austin treatment methods for addiction, and what they have to offer.

Inpatient and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab

Alcohol rehab, for both inpatient and outpatient treatment, can be a life-changing experience. It all depends on the severity of the addiction and if there are any co-occurring mental health disorders with it. At one end of the spectrum are inpatient centers which provide patients with around-the-clock care, while at the other end there is outpatient rehabilitation which can be far less intense.

Educating yourself on your options is key to figuring out where you or your loved ones should start their journey to sobriety. But, even with the highest level of education, you may still have questions.

Inpatient Alcohol Rehab vs. Outpatient Rehab: What is the difference

Both inpatient and outpatient rehab can be effective depending on your needs. They can also be effective in conjunction with each other. The best way to decide whether you or a loved one should go to an inpatient alcohol rehab or outpatient alcohol rehab program is to consider three main areas: comorbid conditions, severity of addiction and motivation.

  • Some individuals with mental health issues (that are manifested in a physical manner due to psychological trauma, etc.) have been known to develop an alcohol problem. It is important for you or your loved one to understand what exactly he or she has because alcohol rehab programs are not designed for everyone with a mental health issue who has a substance use problem.

Severity of addiction : Some people simply need assistance to re-learn how to drink and/or moderate their drinking. A program that focuses more on education and behavior modification is a good fit for such individuals. However, if the individual has developed an alcohol habit (and is also dealing with other mental health issues) inpatient alcohol rehab may be needed.

Medical withdrawal symptoms from alcohol addiction can include:

– An intense craving for alcohol

– Anxiety and nervousness

– Body aches and pains

– Confusion and disorientation

– Depression or mood swings (which can lead to suicidal thoughts)

– Dizziness or unsteadiness

– Diarrhea or vomiting (often caused by alcohol poisoning.

Alcohol Rehabilitation Treatment Methods:

The Differences Between Detox Centers and Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitals

Detox centers are not psychiatric hospitals – they treat symptoms of withdrawal through a medically monitored process prior to referral to an inpatient hospital. Inpatient psychiatric hospitals may or may not provide detoxification services but they will provide more extensive assessment and monitoring of symptoms post-detox.

It’s important to note that Detox Austin centers do not replace the need for formal addiction treatment and that, of those who go through a detox program, most will still require inpatient or outpatient care.

The best way to get the most comprehensive addiction treatment is usually through an all-inclusive facility that offers both detox and psychiatric care. By combining services at one location it’s easier for patients and easier for the medical staff to monitor symptoms.

Additionally, treating patients in combination allows for specialists to address alcohol-related health concerns in a broader sense as well as addiction recovery issues such as relapse prevention. However, some individuals may prefer one type of treatment over another like “sober living near me” depending on their personal preferences and needs.

Wrap Up

Some individuals prefer the privacy of detox centers while others want the more extensive assessment offered by psychiatric hospitals. Individuals also have different goals for their urgent care, treatment and recovery. However, everyone should consider the pros and cons of both before making a final decision about which program is best for them.
