What to Do During the ‘East from the Beast’?

March 16, 2018 //  by Geoff

As the UK experiences one of the coldest weathers this year, its whole landscape is covered with snow. What is referred to as the “Beast from the East” is actually easterly winds that bring freezing temperatures from Siberia. The temperature is expected to drop to -8ºC or below. In such a weather, you must be wondering about what you can do to survive it. Below are a few “what to do” tips that you may find useful.

what to do during the east from the beast

Stay on the Move

During winter, all you want to do is to snuggle up in bed and enjoy a nap! However, it is still very important to stay on the move. This not only keeps you fit and healthy but also helps in generating heat in your body, keeping you warm. If the weather is clear in the middle of the day, take a short walk outside. When you remain indoors, walk around and do any household chores that will allow you to keep moving. Chair-based exercises are also a good way to work your arms, legs and toes.

Eat Properly

Wondering what to eat during the Beast from the East? Opt for hot meals and beverages! These help to keep you warm throughout the day. Have at least one hot meal, especially in the evening. Have a hot drink before going to bed and keep a flask full of it by your bedside for if ever you feel thirsty during the night. Make sure you include fruits and vegetables in your diet as they contain all the necessary vitamins to fight against any diseases. If you do not feel like shopping for food, stock up on basic foodstuff in the fridge or in a cupboard. Or, shop online and have them delivered at your place.

Stay in Good Spirits

Feeling down during winter? No worries, staying indoors does not mean you have to give up on your favourite activities, like listening to music, watching a good movie or reading. Spending quality time with the family is also a great way to remain in good spirits during this cold weather. When the weather is a bit clear outside, join your family in making snowmen! Otherwise, enjoy amazing online games at Moon Bingo which offers you different types of gaming solutions for all tastes, right from the comforts of your home. You can enjoy bingo games, slot games or casino games from any devices!

Protect Your Health

Winter usually comes with a host of illnesses, especially flu. Be prepared to fight against the flu by taking a flu vaccine at least once a year. Whenever you go out, make sure you wear several layers of clothes instead of a single one. Go for cotton, wool or fleecy fibres that help to maintain body heat. In bed, use a hot water bottle or an electric blanket, however both cannot be used at the same time. If ever you catch a flu, make sure to clean your hands regularly and take care not to spread the viruses. Also, keep a loose scarf round your mouth for added protection. Remember to stay active as even moderate exercises help to keep you warm.

Look After Your Pets

Worried about your pets during winter? Rest assured that you can protect them too! For instance, you can take your dog out for a walk to keep it healthy and happy. Make your dog wear warm and reflective clothing so it remains visible. Keep your pet away from frozen ponds or lakes as thin ice can break under its weight. If you have a cat, don’t let it wander outside. As far as possible, keep them indoors and provide them with a clean comfortable sleeping bed and litter.

These are some of the “what to do” tips that may help in turning this rough winter season into a comfortable and pleasant one. You can also come up with other ways that can be equally useful during this freezing weather.
