4 Tips On How To Travel Like A Local

June 11, 2019 //  by Geoff

Below are the tips that can help you travel like a local.

1. Befriend a Local

Staying in your own bubble won’t bode well if you are to travel like a local in a foreign country. Even if you take your friends with you, you can’t know about the local stuff without actually asking a local. So why not befriend one? They can show you around and have fun with you, laugh around, may even invite you to their home for local sports to watch or just some Netflix and maybe even teach you their language – said by a traveler. There are some companies that organize you a personal tour guide disguised as your friend.

2. Travel Locally

Bus tours are very linear and boring, and they make you stand out as a tourist. You don’t need that. Use the local transport and whatever is common and popular there to add some thrill to your tour whether it be local bus or train. It will allow you to explore more vastly and in your own space of time instead of being linear and going to popular places and they are most probably cheaper than a tour van. Visit the local café instead of fancy restaurants and communicate with the locals.

3. Don’t plan too far ahead

The travel expert also said that planning for accommodation is the only planning you should do. Other planning can be done when you arrive there. Nothing is more thrilling than making plans on the go and visiting places you weren’t looking forward to. You can go out and communicate with the locals to ask for directions and even your hotel management can tell you about the places to go. You can travel on the local bus to see what life in that country is like. Even if you are lost, you have internet and online suggestions are very helpful in the choice of where to eat or what a good coffee place is. There are lots of things that can be done beforehand rather than planning them out and sticking to a tight schedule.

4. Ditch Residing in a Hotel and Opt for a Home

Hotels are mostly located in an area where there is heavy traffic of tourists and chances are you are just going to bump into a fellow tourist which won’t be the same as living locally. Services like VRBO and Airbnb rental are very helpful in finding you a house room for rent for a short time. These houses are owned by people who are willing to let you stay in their house and believe me they are much cheaper than a hotel room – recommended by enthusiast travel expert from a junk removal company. Staying in a local house will give you a good look at local life and their lifestyle and you will also be facilitated with most things a hotel offers in some cases. A house in a residential area with local stores and cafes in close proximity is probably the best house to stay in and get a chance to explore the local life.
